  8. Campaigns Campaigning simply means doing something to put across a point and get something changed. Whatever angle you want to take to express that viewpoint can therefore be classified as a campaign. There is no need to feel restricted to a mega-phone to make a difference. Campaigns itself is split into BME (Black Minority and Ethnic), LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Trans), International, Woman’s and Community. What’s common to the success of all these campaigns relies on all students getting involved. Whatever your opinion, issue or idea it’s your involvement that’s the important thing. So go out there, get active and be the change that you want to see in your Union. ubuonline.co.uk/campaigns/

  37. UBU Democracy Elections, Council,General Meetings

  38. Elections Elections take place twice a year where sabbatical officers, part-time officers, council members and NUS delegates are elected. Elections give all students the opportunity to take an active part in deciding the future direction and governance of the Union. With a wide number of choices, our members are in a unique position to decide the future direction and governance of their union. More importantly it allows any member to come forward and present their ideas, solutions and practices for taking the Union forward and ensures that we continue to be a forward-looking, student centred movement.

  39. Council Union Council is the highest elected decision making statutory body within UBU. This means that it is the body that decides how things are done. They can set and adjust the constitution, approve or reject motions, set up forums and sub-committees. It also oversees the work of the Student Executive and media areas. All decisions are governed by its standing orders. Union Council is representative of all schools, media areas, societies and sports clubs in the Union.

  40. General Meetings General Meetings are the highest form of meeting in the Union. They approve the constitution, accounts and set the agenda with large political issues being debated. 100 students from at least 2/3 of the University's Academic Schools must attend this meeting and all students are encouraged to attend. General meetings are governed through standing orders.

  41. Student Reps Student representation is vital in the continuing goal of enhancing the student experience for students attending the University of Bradford.  It ensures that students' views are heard at all levels throughout the university, influencing university practice and strategic direction. Both the university and University of Bradford Students’ Union are committed to building and supporting a strong representative scheme – for both students and staff.  Our representation systems is made up of hundreds of student volunteers, who choose to represent other students within their programme of study. In return volunteers are provided with the training and support needed to perform their roles. Additionally all volunteers are awarded for their time and commitment to the role, with access to bespoke training designed to enhance their employability. As well as this all volunteers are provided with a certificate as a reward at the end of the academic year.
