Where is Latin-America? Latin-America includes all the Americas south of the United States, as well as the entire Caribbean. -It contains over two dozen countries. -One of the most diverse regions in the world. -Heavily influenced by African traditions in some areas
FAMILY • Latin Americans have an incredible influence on family. • Generally men work and provide financially, while women tend to children and housework. • Authority is divided between parents, as well as elder siblings. • Grandparents and extended family always stay close.
Food • Food and cooking play a large role in family activities. • Generally women cook family meals, however it is passed down to both male and female generations.
Music • Due to Latin-Americas large area, and vast diversity many styles of music have been created. • Some of the most popular are… • Salsa- popular through all Latin-America, fast paced, sensual form of music and dance. Popular with the working class • Mariachi- traditional Mexican “folk” music • Rumba- Afro-Brazil funk music • Samba- Brazilian funk
