St. Mary School Mission: • St. Mary School is dedicated to the intellectual and Christian development of each student. • The faculty strives to assist the students to become who God wishes them to become by touching the mind, heart, and spirit of each child. • It is our mission to teach Catholic values and encourage academic achievement, thus giving the students the qualities and skills they need to better serve God and their neighbor.
Teachers strive to: • Teach student responsibility & preparedness • Incorporate Catholic values in all subjects • Encourage respect towards teachers and students. • Reward kindness & good behavior (Gem Jar) • Handle conflicts with fairness, keeping close communication with parents
Dress Code • Thank you! Your students are following the rules of the dress code. • We remind students to look neat by tucking in shirts • Cold weather – sweaters & sweatshirts must be within dress code. (Label & keep in locker)
Textbooks • Leave at home; return at end of school year: • Reading • Math • Science • English
Social Studies • Pennsylvania History • Regions of the United States • Tests about every 10 day • Notetaking • Smartboard with Map Your child can make note cards with key facts to encourage independent study. Parents
Religion • Research saints for All Saints Day Liturgy • Understanding Liturgy • The Ten Commandmants • Participation in Liturgies Tests –reread the material in the book Parents
Spelling • Day 1: Introduce words • Write words 3 times each for homework in cursive • Day 2: Workbook • Day 3: Workbook & Sparkle • Day 4: Test, words written in cursive Dictate words to your child the day before the test. Parents
Handwriting • Shares time with Spelling • Follow along in book • Grades mostly based on Spelling Tests Encourage slanting letters Parents
English • Need compostion book • Sentence structure • Parts of speech • Writing often, mostly here in school Encourage journal writing at home Parents
Computers • New computer lab w/laptops • Type to Learn Program Encourage your child to use the correct fingers when typing as we do at school Parents
Study Skills-Social St. • Encourage your child to reread the information out loud in a quiet room • Make note cards as proof!
Important Dates: • Fri., Sept 21 – 11:45 Dismissal • Wed., Sept 26 – Field Trip to Old Economy Village – Dress down & pack a lunch • All Saints Day – Thurs.,Nov. 1: Please try to attend Mass • Students dress up as saints. • Students will do readings, be gift bearers • We have all of the costumes here. • It’s the day after Halloween
