  1. Scripture Reading 1 Corinthians 1:10-17

  2. Introduction • I would like for us to consider some things needed in the church today in the 21st century. • While a lot of things have changed, there are things needed in the church today that was needed in the 1st century. • Let us consider.

  3. Unity • From my observation the church has become fractured and splintered. • 1 Corinthians 1:10. • John 17. • God has given us liberty in matters of opinion (Rom. 14). • But even in matters of opinion we are not to split & splinter the church (14:21).

  4. Sound Teaching & Preaching • Titus 2:1, 7-8. • In one bulletin that I receive, the sermon topics are listed. • Two recently caught my attention. • One sermon entitled “Bang” and another entitled “Only Children Play with Rocks”. • 2 Timothy 4:1-2.

  5. Personal Evangelism • All evangelism could be considered personal. • In many places evangelism is viewed as the preacher’s job. • He does have a responsibility, but so does every Christian ( Mt. 28:18-20). • We all must do our part inasmuch as our abilities will let us.

  6. Christians living like Christians • In too many churches, there people who claim to be a child of God that want to live like the world. • Mt. 5:13-16; 1 John 2:15-17. • Christianity is not a coat that we put on Sunday morning and don’t put back on until the next Sunday. • 1 Peter 1:16.

  7. Faithfulness • Related to our last point. • Hebrews 10:24-26. • Faithfulness is not just attending the services of the church, but is a part of it. • When a person willfully forsakes the assemblies, what else are they not doing?

  8. Study • Brethren at one time had a reputation for their knowledge of the scriptures. • I’m afraid that isn’t the case anymore. • Some can name players, stats, standings, but can’t name the 12 apostles or give the plan of Salvation. • 2 Timothy 2:15. • Nothing can take the place of study.

  9. Conclusion • We must be diligent in our efforts to maintain our faith and to keep the church in the right way. • It is easy to let things slip away. • Duet. 6:4-12. • Let us be aware of these things and make every conscience effort to do them.
