Down time • Yes! You can • do your own work and read or use the internet • have a quiet conversation with other tutors • But… you also should • develop your practice and reflect • do some of the tutor odd jobs • read tutoring handouts
Policies • If students are waiting, do not exceed 30 minutes. • For grammar help, underline the problems and identify the type of problem (do not fix it for the student). • If a student wants help with a cover letter, resume or application, please let them know that we can give them help one time and refer them to Career Education located on the 1st floor of Old Main. • Students can make no more than three appointments a week; however, they can drop-in and see if we have time if they want more help than the three appointments. • Students are permitted one appointment a day.
Tutoring Process • Check the appointment form on WCOnline • Talk generally to the student. • Try to make the student feel comfortable. • Inquire and ask to see the assignment. • Ask what the student wants you to focus on. • Make a plan together. • Look at the assignment line by line, pointing out the gaps and problems in the paper. • Teach about the gaps and problems. • Give positive reinforcement along with constructive feedback. • Summarize the session and leave the student with something to work towards for next time. • Fill in the client report form on WCOnline. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dGCj-r5QVQ
