Letter by former UofS student about PAD: “great opportunity to improve your German, travel, and make new friends” “... began in September with a four-day introductory... learn the basics of what the job would involve, get tips on life in Germany, and meet other assistants .... I was slightly concerned that I was not prepared for my job, but after the conference I had a much better idea about [the] work” “The twelve-hour workweek ... lots of time to take university classes, join clubs, travel, and earn extra cash by tutoring English. [M]ost universities in Germany,[let] anybody register as a visiting student [for free], so I am taking a few courses “ “[Money] is enough to pay for rent and food and still travel and go out on weekends. [S]chool holidays are ... generous; I [only worked] two weeks when the two-week fall break started. I also get every Monday off, so I’ve had lots of chances to travel around Germany.” “I strongly encourage anybody who is looking for a fulfilling and financially manageable way to spend a year in Germany to consider the foreign language assistant program.”(Excerpts from letter by Joel MacDonald, Hamburg) See full letter at http://artsandscience.usask.ca/languages/German/Experiences.php
