Welcome to Green Mountain Stadium Paul Georgieff Nicole Whitney
Introduction and Purpose • Vermont does not currently have a professional sports team because they do not have a stadium in which to play. • By building a large stadium, we could facilitate football, baseball, and soccer teams. • The stadium could also be used by local colleges and high schools for championship games.
Scope • Many of the surrounding states already have stadiums. • Our focus was on the entire state of Vermont.
Criteria • Population • Roads • Hazardous waste • Schools • Endangered Species • Structures • Wetlands
Population Criteria Highly populated location Spectators are necessary Chittenden County has highest population
Roads Criteria • Close proximity to major roads • Gets spectators to games • Gets teams to games • Between 50 and 500 meters to a major road
Hazardous Waste Criteria • Don’t want stadium on waste sites • It’s a public facility • Health concerns need to be taken into account • Minimum of 500 meters from waste site
Schools Criteria • Schools may use stadium • Close proximity to UVM, and many major local high schools • As close as possible to schools
Endangered Species Criteria • We care about endangered species • Need to protect their habitats • Minimum of 500 meters from habitats
Structures Criteria • Cannot build on existing buildings
Wetlands Criteria • Cannot build on soggy land • Minimum of 50 meters from wetland
Data Analysis • Considered each criteria • Used find distance, geoprocessing, buffers, clip, and map calculator to distill data
Buffers 500 meter buffer around hazardous waste sites 50 meter buffer around all wetlands
Map Calculator • The low values were ideal • Map calculator was used to find optimal location • Based on endangered species, roads, and selected schools
Best Locations • Buffers and structures were placed over the map calculation • This map was used to find optimal locations (circled in red)
Conclusion and Recommendation • We recommend these two locations for the future site of the Green Mountain Stadium. • They were chosen because they had low values without buffer overlap.
