VOLTER - ONLINE CATALOGUE • http://volter.linneanet.fi/webvoyeng.htm • free access on the net • approximately 60 % of the material included so far • foreign literature since about 1976 • Finnish literature since early 20th century • master´s theses of the Turku University since 1979 • also the material of the Student Union of the University of Turku (Call number TYY) • requests to material in the Main Library • reservations to material on loan • renewals • logging in with the student card bar code and surname (user name), and a PIN code (password) • iniatially the PIN code for all patrons 12345 • must by changed immediately to a new code by the patron

COLLECTIONS AT THE MAIN LIBRARY • FENNICA (Call Number PÄÄ Fennica) • material printed in Finland since 1919 • books, journals, newspapers, ephemera (leaflets, catalogues, annual reports, timetables, pamphlets, programmes etc.) • loan period for books 28 days (home loan or reading room), for journals 14 days (reading room) • some material only for reading room use • course books unavailable for any use • Course Book Library!

LOANS AT THE MAIN LIBRARY • material situated in closed stocks must be requested beforehand • requests normally via the online catalogue VOLTER • requests made before 12 o’clock on workdays (Mon-Fri) can be collected after 15 o’clock on the same day in the Main Library • requests made after 12 o’clock can be picked up the day after (not on Saturdays and Sundays) • borrowers can renew their loans and reserve books on loan by themselves

FACULTY LIBRARIES • 5 faculty libraries : Educational and Social Sciences, Humanities, Law, Medicine, Mathematics and Science • usually located in the vicinity of the respective faculty and departments • a faculty library may have several departmental libraries • European Documentation Centre (in Educarium):information on the legislation and activities of the European Union.
FACULTY LIBRARIES LOANS • some libraries give home loans • some libraries give only overnight and weekend loans • check-out during the last two opening hours • return before 10 a.m. • study carrels at the reading rooms • varied borrowing rules, check with the library! • open shelves -> no requests beforehand
BORROWING AND FEES • student card (antenna) = library card • a library card issued free of charge for all other customers in any library loans desk • a customer with several overdue loans is blocked from borrowing and must pay a fine in order to regain borrowing rights
