This group uses the concept of one to a part in most sections. There is an expectation of high quality work coupled with strong commitment to the advancement of the ensemble. Students in this ensemble will find the transition to college playing very smooth. This ensemble meets for the full school year and students receive 2 credits.

  7. Symphonic Band • This instrumental ensemble is open to anyone who plays an approved instrument. Although not auditioned, this group achieves high quality work through strong work ethic and motivation. Students in this ensemble will generally perform music at a level IV and V from the North Carolina Bandmaster’s list. This ensemble meets for the full school year and students receive 2 credits.

  8. Jazz Ensembles I and II • Both Jazz Ensembles or Big Bands meet during the instructional school day. Students who are in Wind Ensemble form Jazz I while students in Symphonic Band form Jazz II. These ensembles meet approximately once a week during class. During such time non-jazz musicians focus on chamber ensembles such as French Horn choir, Flute Ensemble, Clarinet Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble to name a few.

  9. Jazz Studies • This group meets before school during the fall and generally after school during the winter and spring. A calendar is provided at the beginning of the school year. Students receive an academic credit for this zero period class. Students will study the art of improvisation, the history/journey of jazz, and perform in a small combo for several area functions throughout the year.

  10. Panther Regiment • The Panther Regiment (marching band) meets after school during the fall. There are summer commitments as well. Generally, there are 2-3 rehearsals per week. The Regiment performs at all home football games, select away games, local holiday parades and 3-5 competitions per season. There is a huge time commitment with this ensemble, however a calendar is provided in the spring of each school year. Students may opt to take this course for academic credit or for transcript credit only. There is a fee involved with this course. While this ensemble is not required, it is highly recommended to all students in the band program.
