Planning for Post High School Begins Now • Students begin to expand or limit their future based on choices they make entering high school. • Students should take advantage of opportunities offered in high school that will give them important life experience. • Students need to have a general idea about what they might want to do after high school graduation. • Students need to know that some decisions they make limit their choices for the future.

  3. South Dakota Graduation Requirements • For the Class of 2011, 2012, 2013 are under the previous SD Graduation Pathways of Standard, Advance and Distinguished. • The Graduating class of 2014 and those starting HS thereafter will be under the graduation requirements passed by the SD Board of Education on Nov. 2, 2009. • http://sdhs2025.wikispaces.com/Graduation+Requirements

Personal Learning Plan • The SD high school graduation requirements, state that all high school students should have a personal learning plan with a minimum of 22 credits. • Students create a personal learning plan using SDMylife.com • Students will revisit and update personal learning plans annually. The learning plan is a guide and can be changed and modified at any time.

  5. Language Arts Requirements: • Four unites of Language Arts- must include: • Writing 1.5 units • Literature 1.5 units (which must also include .5 units of American Lit) • Speech or Debate - .5 unit • Language Arts elective .5 unit

Math Requirements: • Three units of Math – must include: • Algebra I 1 unit • Algebra II 1 unit* • Geometry 1 unit* • * With school and parent/guardian approval, a student maybe be excused from this course in favor of a more appropriate course. A student may be excused from Algebra II or Geometry, but not both. If excused 3 units of math is still required.

A student may be excused from Algebra II or Geometry, but not both. If excused 3 units of math is still required.

  18. Do I Want to Get Involved? • Involvement in HS is important. Getting involved helps you gain skills that colleges and employers look for. • The more you can get involved in the more you expand your options. • You can be involved in school sponsored organizations, athletics or activities outside of school. • Sometimes a part-time job also benefit students in gaining important experiences. • Community service is also a great way to get involved.
