Roles of a Facilitator: Group Leader Modeling appropriate communication skills: listening; repeating and summarizing Ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all learners Helping learners apply content to their jobs Providing complete feedback during discussions and activities Managing group involvement processes Promoting the development of action plans

  7. Role of a Facilitator as a group member • Facilitating while a member of a group is probably the most common use of facilitation skills • You can ask questions that will redirect the group or invite in a quiet member

Key Skills of a Facilitator Jigsaw • Divide into groups of 4 • In each home group designate a 1, 2, 3 & 4 • Reform in expert groups • 1 reads and prepares to teach before the meeting • 2 reads and prepares to teach group process • 3 reads and prepares to teach how to handle • difficult team members • 4 reads and prepares to teach culturally proficient facilitation Return to the home group and begin teaching your part of the jigsaw
