What is STEP? • STEP provides academic support services and enrichment activities to student scholars in grades 7 – 12. • The key component of STEP is the Saturday Learning Academy which is comprised of advising, counseling, academic instruction, and tutorials. (field trips, workshops, & cultural awareness programs)
What are the requirements? • Scholars must hold an 80 average or better to participate in the program • Scholars who are struggling to maintain the academic requirements will be admitted to the A.S.P.I.R.E. program. • Scholars meet with STEP staff and tutors to develop and implement a personal plan of objective-based action incorporating 6 key elements: • A.S.P.I.R.E. = Awareness, Skill, Persistence, Information, Resource use, and Excellence. • Scholars must complete 10 hours of community service for the academic year • Scholars will have to attend 8 sessions to be considered an active participant. • There is no application fee or program tuition however there will be nominal fees for some activities/ field trips.

Parent Advisory Board • To assist STEP Staff with implementing the goals and objectives of the grant. • Includes but not limited to: Serving as chaperones, outreach to parents, workshops, and career fair. • An email invitation to sign-up will be sent to all parents this week.
“What Can I do?” • Lead Parent • Assist in classrooms • Workshop Presentation (STEM related field, Resume, Professional Development, etc.) • Parent Greeter-Help students get to class • Monitor Hallways • Other duties as needed • Parent Volunteer Sign-Up Sheet Online at step@syr.edu • Send an email tostep@syr.edu • Call the STEP Office at 315 443-9171
Overview Of Policies, Forms, and Important Dates • Scholar Volunteer Hours & Forms -Due April 1, 2020 • Senior Information for Celebration - Due April 1, 2020 • Parent Volunteer Hours (4 hours Must be completed by April 15th, 2020) • IEP/ADA Form/Free and reduced lunch (grant requirements)
