Funding for Five-Year-Old • Five-year olds will be included in Certified Enrollment if the following criteria are met: • 5-yr old preschooler attending with a minimum cumulative FTE value = 0.50 • Student may participate in 1 classroom • Student may participate in more than one classroom • Teacher is properly licensed through BOEE • District holds the teacher contract. • Program is located within a district building • Program is part of the district’s continuum of educational services
Additional Important Points • Offsite locations must report 4 year olds participating in the SWVPP • Offsite locations must report 3 and 5 year olds participating in the SWVPP • District buildings must report 3, 4, and 5 year olds participating in the SWVPP
Kindergarten Literacy Assessment • Administer Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) or a kindergarten benchmark assessment adopted by the Department of Education (DE) to every kindergarten student enrolled in the district no later than October 1 [Iowa Code 279.60(16)];
Kindergarten Literacy Assessment • Collect from each parent guardian or legal custodian of a kindergarten student enrolled in the district, information including, but not limited to, preschool attendance and demographic factors; and • Report the results of the assessment and preschool information to the DE no later than January 1 of that school year.
