4. So, what does the ASD do anyway? • Mission • To support student members of AOTA by communicating their interestsand advancing their professional contributions. This Assembly upholds the AOTA mission, promotes Association membership, and provides a forum for the development of student leadership and political awarenessto enhance the viability of the profession.

8. So… What is OT Connections? • OT Connections is an online community designed for occupational therapy practitioners, students, and consumers • It is a place where members of the occupational therapy community can interact, connect, and share

What does OT Connections have to offer? • Blogs: • View and follow blogs written by practitioners and students • Search by title, author, or subject • Create your own blog! • Follow the Assembly of Student Delegates blog • Galleries: • Stores photos, videos, and podcasts • Browse galleries of AOTA events and videos as well as student videos • Upload your own photos from OT events

What does OT Connections have to offer? • Forums: • For discussions on all topics related to occupational therapy • Start your own discussions or respond to others’ questions and ideas • Two types of forums: • Special Interest Section Forums • Available to AOTA members • Offer detailed discussions on specific practice areas • Public forums • Open to all users

What does OT Connections have to offer? • The goal of forums: to provide an environment rich of debate by fostering an open exchange of ideas and opinions • Groups: • Designed for individuals with similar interests • Both public and private groups are available • Can’t find a group that meets your needs? Feel free to create your own!

12. How do I join OT Connections? • It’s ridiculously easy. Seriously. Just go to http://otconnections.aota.org and sign up! • AOTA members – There’s no need to create a new username and password – just use your existing AOTA information! • Everybody else – Click the “Sign Up” button and fill in the requested information

13. Join the Assembly of Student Delegates Group! With 3 easy steps: • Click on “Groups” (located on the menu bar) • Click on “AOTA Governance” • Find Assembly of Student Delegates and click “Join this Group”

It’s easy to stay engaged! • To follow your favorite blogs… • Go to the blog’s page • Scroll down and enter your e-mail in the “E-mail Notifications” box • Or… Subscribe to the RSS feed • To keep up with your favorite forums… • Click on “Email Forum Subscriptions” under the Shortcuts tab on the right-hand side • Two options: • Non-Digest – receive an e-mail of each post • Digest – receive one e-mail a day with an update of all the emails in the past 24 hours

15. C.O.O.L Coordinated Online Opportunity for Leadership “Volunteering Made Easier”

16. What is C.O.O.L? Opportunities for ALLmembers from diversebackgrounds and geographic areas access to volunteer opportunities within AOTA. • Members can use the COOL database to create an online volunteer profile with their interests, expertise, and available time commitments. • This profile will allow AOTA staff and commission chairpersons to find members who meet the criteria for volunteer opportunities as they arise.

17. You can be C.O.O.L , too… All AOTA members are invited to complete a volunteer profile for the C.O.O.Ldatabase. Following completion of the profile, members can examine possible volunteer opportunities that match their area of expertise, years of experience, amount of time available to volunteer, etc...

What is it? • Encourages students to complete and present their research! • Designed in collaboration with Susan Lin (Research Director at AOTA), AOTA staff, and ASD SC. • Purposed to address the Centennial Vision • Focused on meeting the BOD’s priorities • Encourage continuing research for students as they transition into clinicians

21. Centennial Vision "We envision that occupational therapy is a powerful, widely recognized, science-driven, and evidence-based profession with a globally connected and diverse workforce meeting society's occupational needs."

22. Board of Director’s 2011 Priorities • Promote dissemination of evidence based knowledge • Build research capacity in the profession

23. SPOTS 2010 • AOTA acknowledged student research (i.e. posters, presentations) with the SPOTS’ logo at the 2010 Annual AOTA Conference and Expo in Orlando, FL

24. SPOTS 2011-2012 • All student posters and presentations will continue to be recognized through the SPOTS logo • We have also added Western Psychological Services (WPS) Travel Award • given to the top three highest scoring student Posters, one of which must be in the Secondary Topic Category of Sensory Integration/Sensory Processing • The total award, per Poster, is $500 and can be used to defray travel costs of students attending AOTA's Annual Conference & Expo in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. • Top scoring student research in each presentation category will also also be featured in the SIS quarterly newsletter.

25. What Can You Do? • Submit your research project, thesis, and/or dissertation to be accepted at the 2011 conference and expo under the SPOTS logo • Tell your fellow students about the program and advocate for research at the student level • Carry your research knowledge and motivation over to your career in OT • Notify your professors about SPOTS and how they can impact their students, program, and profession
