  12. Cost How do you find low cost elearning solutions?

  13. The Cost of Instructor-Led LearningBased on 800 Students Design and Development $59, 560 Delivery $1,026,920 Admin/Maint $5,168 Total Cost $1,091,648 Kevin Kruse, “Measuring the Cost of eLearning,” www.e-learning.com, retrieved 9-2005

  15. Times are Changing Training managers are used to spending in relatively small amounts. eLearning tends to be front-loaded with the savings down the line. Sums are greater…and so are the benefits…but so are the risks. The professional in training has to deal with multiple stakeholders beyond the learner…including IT, finance, and purchasing.

  16. The Answer ?

  17. Outsourcing • The hierarchical structure of an organization is a relic of the past with the ascendance of teams and “business ecosystems.” • Companies are developing a web of suppliers, customers and outsourcing partners that can provide specific expertise when needed. • 90% of multinational firms outsource some things The Book of Knowledge—Investing in the Growing Education and Training Industry, Merrill Lynch/1999-2000

  18. Lesson from the Past You do not have to own it all. Total control of instructors and course development does not insure success.

  19. You are empowered! • Outsourcing also means that you are not bound by the limitations of your current faculty and technology infrastructure. • You can focus on assessing the needs of your potential students and showing how elearning can bring them success.

  20. Implementation Strategies eLearning must be driven by the specific needs of your target population • Community needs assessment • Corporate/Organizational University

  21. Move cost analysis from ROI(Return on Investment to ROV(Return on Value) Move cost analysis from strictly ROI(Return on Investment to ROV(Return on Value) ROV shifts focus from ROI to a more complete analysis. It broadens the analysis of ROI to include both the financial costs and hard returns, and also the intangible benefits such as having a scalable business, more competent employees, less absenteeism, better employee retention and more satisfied customers.

  22. If you want it, measure it. If you can’t measure it, forget it. --Peter Drucker

  23. Purpose of eLearning • The purpose of elearning is to drive business results, not simply reduce the costs of training • If you can’t identify the business goal of an elearning program, why do it?

  24. eLearning Questions • What is the business need? • How might learning be involved? • What are the learning success measurements? • What is the timeframe for learning? • What is the timeframe for outcomes? • Do all stakeholders buy into the process?

  25. eLearning Cycle

  26. Open your eLearning Center! What is your next step ?
