  2. High School Years High school years are of most importance towards your eligibility of scholarships. The sooner you start obtaining skills and building a good resume, the better chance you have of obtaining scholarships that will help you in college. There is no need to wait until you are a Junior or Senior to start looking for scholarships that apply to you. As a freshman you could begin to search for scholarships and create a portfolio for future years. Here are some tips on how to get started…

  3. 1st Year – “Freshman” • Have an advisor help you create a schedule for the next four years. • Remember that every year counts, so do your best to maintain a high G.P.A. • Get involved in at least 20 hours of community service. • If possible, get involved in a sport, club or any extracurricular activity. • Begin a general search for scholarships.

  4. 2nd Year – “Sophomore” • Continue your search for scholarships. • If possible, get involved in a leadership position. • Start thinking of schools you want to apply after high school and research all the requirements. • Get involved in at least 20 hours of community service. • Make a first draft of a resume. • Create a network of people that could give good reference about you. • Keep a high GPA. • Enroll in classes that will help you in college.

  5. 3rd Year – “Junior” • Continue your search for scholarships. • Start applying for eligible scholarships. • Work on revising your resume. • Meet with your advisor to see your progress in school. • Start looking into costs and applications for the college you want to apply. • Attend any college orientation offered at your school. • Keep a high GPA. • Enroll in classes that will help you in college.

  6. 4th Year – “Senior” • Keep a high GPA. • Enroll in classes that will help you in college. • Have a well-developed resume • Be aware of all scholarship deadlines and meet all of them. • Get to meet an advisor at the college you will be attending. • Create a list of all the expenses you are expecting to have and how much of that will be covered by scholarships. • Begin seeing possible ways to get involved in the college.
