  1. Jackson County ClerkElections Division VOTING IN JACKSON

  2. How do I register? • Visit any one of the following locations: • Secretary of State branch office, • Any county clerk’s office, • Your local clerk’s office. • You may also register to vote using a mail-in application, sent to a clerk’s office. • Note: You may not be eligible to obtain an absentee ballot if you register to vote by mail.

  3. How do I know when to vote? • There are 4 regular election dates: • May • August • September • November • For specific dates and the locations effected: • Keep an eye on the Jackson County Clerk’s website, • Contact your local clerk, • Check the Jackson Citizen Patriot for announcements.

  4. Where do I go to vote? • Check out the Michigan Voter Information Center (MVIC). • Ensure you are registered to vote, • Obtain a map to your polling location, • View a sample ballot. • We strive to ensure your polling location does not change. However, ballot items may require you to visit a different location from time to time. You will be notified by mail prior to an election if a location change is required.

  5. What do I do when I get there? • Fill out an application to vote with: • Signature • Printed Name • Current address • Date of Birth • Present your photo ID • Receive your ballot • Vote your ballot • Present ballot to election inspector and place in tabulator.

  6. How do I know my vote will count? • In Jackson County, we use the Accu-Vote ballot tabulators which require filling in an oval. • Check out this video for additional tips.

  7. What if I need assistance? • You may ask any precinct inspector for assistance in marking your ballot. To ensure your votes are not influenced, an inspector from the Republican and Democratic party will assist you. • You may also use the AutoMARK machine to vote your ballot. It will not count your votes; you will still need to take your ballot to the tabulator.

  8. How do I get an absentee ballot? • You may only obtain an absentee ballot if you meet one of the following criteria: • Age 60 or older, • Expect to be out of town on election day, • Unable to vote without assistance at the polls, • In jail awaiting arraignment or trial, • Unable to attend the polls due to religious reasons, • Appointed to work as an election inspector in a precinct other than your own. • Contact your local clerk to obtain an application for absentee ballot or you may download one here and mail it in.

  9. What’s an AutoMARK? • The AutoMARK is a device designed to assist voters in marking their ballot with complete privacy. • Check out this video to learn more.

  10. What if I still have questions? • You may contact the Elections Division of the County Clerk’s office at: • (517) 768-6759 – phone • (517) 788-4601 – fax • 312 S. Jackson Street, Jackson, MI 49201 • You may also contact your local clerk.
