Professional Names: • Utilized when the exact name associated with a researcher’s body of work is different than the legal name of that individual in HRMS. • All names listed on a proposal for WU personnel default to the name found in HRMS. • PDS has ability to utilize a Professional Name for any HRMS personnel named on a proposal. • Is Not for the purpose of temporary overrides when the HRMS data needs to be corrected. • Contact your Grants Analyst if a professional name should be made available for use in PDS.
Key Words: • Coming attraction: Summer 2008 • To improve data consistency and reporting, key words captured in PDS will be edited against a master list. • Initially, two key word dictionaries will be used: Community of Science - COS Medical Subject Headings - MESH • Key words already captured in PDS will be retained and available for reporting along with the new key words selected through these master lists.

Transition to Adobe • The Following information is a summary re: Grants.gov transition from PureEdge to AdobeForms and what this transition is about and how this transition will impact you as a Principal Investigator applying for and submitting a federal grant application or as a Department Administrator providing assisting with the submission of a federal grant. Background Information: • Grants.gov is phasing out PureEdge software and will be using Adobe Reader software exclusively. According to the NIH, AdobeForms will have the same look and feel as PureEdge, but the overall functionality of the forms will improve. For a period of time (see timeline in the next section), you will still be able to use PureEdge for some Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOA). • Note: Grant.gov’s transition from PureEdge to AdobeForms will not have any impact regarding Washington University’s ability to submit grant applications electronically utilizing our Proposal Development System (PDS).Timeline: • As of this announcement, the timeline to complete the Grants.gov transition from PureEdge to AdobeForms is as follows: • ~ January 1, 2008 Federal Agencies are publishing FOAs in both AdobeForms • PureEdge formats • ~ April 1, 2008 New FOAs will be published in AdobeForms format only • ~ April 1, 2008 All existing PureEdge applications will also be available in Adobe forms format • AdobeForms format • ~ June 30, 2008 Last day to submit applications via PureEdge format • ~July 1, 2008 All Grants.gov submissions must be in AdobeForms format
Transition to Adobe (cont.) During the Transition (01/01/2008 thru 06/30/2008) ~ Washington University as directed by Grants.gov will be utilizing both PureEdge and AdobeForms formats. After the Transition (07/01/2008 and beyond) ~ Grants.gov will only accept AdobeForms format after 06/30/08 Adobe Reader Software – Compatible Version(s) ~ Applicants are required to have a compatible version of Adobe Reader installed. ~ Compatible versions of Adobe Reader are currently 8.1.1 and 8.1.2. ~ As Adobe releases new versions of Adobe Reader, Grants.gov will test their compatibility, and make announcements regarding approval for use.
