  4. Level of Language • Formal vs Informal • Slang and colloquial (casual words we speak) • Denotation (literal) meaning vs Connotation (emotional charge) • Gobbledygook – pretentious, arrogant, abstract, vague

  5. Audience • In a text, tell a friend about a car crash involving your parents’ new car. • Now, in a note tell your parents. • In a police report explain your side. • How did your diction change?
