The last four regular class days: • Today: Review for Quiz 3 • Next class: Take Quiz 3 • Final two class sessions: • Review lectures and practice problems for comprehensive final exam • Each lecture has a 20-point review homework assignment. (Final Exam Review Homework Part 1, covering Chapter 1 plus sections 2.1 - 2.3, and Final Exam Review Homework Part 2, covering the rest of Ch. 2 and Ch.5.) • YOU CAN START ON THESE ANY TIME, and should definitely start on the first one after Quiz 3.
After Quiz 3: • The two remaining class days will be spent reviewing for the final exam. • There are TWO20-point homework assignments that will help you review all of the topics to be covered on the final exam. The first one is due at the start of the last class session, and the second one is due during eval week – the exact due date varies by section, so check your due date online (or ask your teacher in class today…) • The Final Exam is comprehensive and counts 200 points out of your total 1000 possible course points. • The Practice Final counts 20 points and is due at the start time on the day your final is scheduled. Check the date/time of your final for this section online or in the syllabus for this section.
Any questions on the 5.6 homework? Please close your laptops now – You will have time to get a good start on the practice quiz after the lecture today.
Quiz 3 covers sections 5.1-5.4 and 5.6on exponents and polynomials
To study for the quiz: 1). Take Practice Quiz 3 • Your best score on the practice quiz DOES count 6 points toward your course grade. A 100% score gives you 6 points, 50% gives you 3 points, and not taking it at all gives you 0 out of the 6 points. • You can take the practice quiz as many times as you want, and only your best score will count for points. • The practice test has the same number of questions (18) as the real test. • Each time you take the practice quiz, you will get a different set of questions. The more times you take it, the more likely you will see all of the types of question that will be on the real quiz. • When you REVIEW a completed practice quiz, you will be able to use the “Help Me Solve This” and other learning aids, but they will not be available as you take the practice quiz or the real quiz. • You have 90 minutes per attempt at the practice test, but you will only have 55 minutes to take the regular test in class. • On the PRACTICE QUIZ ONLY, you can do part of it, then close it (DON’T submit, just close the window) and come back later to finish it without losing any time off your clock.
Why you should take advantage of the opportunity to take the practice quiz:
Studying for the test (continued): 2). Review the homework from the sections in which you missed questions on the practice quiz. You can use the Study Plan button on the CourseCompass menu for this – it will generate practice questions for you that are similar to the ones you missed on the practice quiz. 3).Review your class notes and/or the online lecture slides (online under each Assignment heading).
Reminders: • Be on time so you’re logged in and ready to go when I give you the password. (This is especially important for this quiz since it will take the entire 55-minute class period.) • Bring yourPOWER CORD & CALCULATOR (yes, you do get to use it for this quiz, and the final exam.) • REMEMBER TO SHOW ALL OF YOUR WORK on the answer/worksheet provided so that we can award partial credit for partially correct work or typos.
Do any of you who have already started the practice quiz have any questions you’d like to have explained?
Instructors: Spend some time here going over questions on the practice test, either from students and/or questions you’ve selected from the practice test.)
Go ahead and start the practice quiz, and we’ll come around to help if you have questions. Remember, the open lab staff will also be available to help you with preparing for the quiz outside of class time, any time between 8:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays.
