Vision “Everyone taking responsibility to make Camden a green, sustainable, low carbon and low waste borough, bringing a better quality of life and economic and social benefits for us and future generations.”
Focus areas • Reducing Camden’s carbon emissions • Adapting to a changing climate • Managing and reducing waste • Improving air quality • Enhancing biodiversity & green spaces
Key goals • Reduce carbon emissions from 2005 levels by: • - 10% by 2012 • - 40% by 2020 • - 80% by 2050 • Reduce residual household waste from 2008-09 by: • - 3% by 2012 • - 10% by 2020 • Significantly more people taking steps to reduce their own environmental impacts

Creating the foundations for success • Planning policy, green infrastructure and green economy: • Clear and coordinated approach to Green Deal and retrofitting • Expansion of decentralised energy networks • Feed-in Tariff projects • Establish baseline/profile for our green businesses, review skills needs and develop training programmes, bring green businesses together through green economy networking events
Empowering our communities • Review and share practice from Camden Communities Green Fund • Provide tools and guidance to communities • Create a network of green champions
Working with businesses, institutions and the voluntary community sector • Camden Climate Change Alliance: practical support, recognition, knowledge sharing, networking • Work with other business networks to enable joint projects • Review opportunities for promoting green issues through VCS commissioning
Working with schools • Identify investment for school buildings • Explore setting up a revolving energy fund • Strategic guidance to schools to manage their own impacts • Coordinate the Sustainable Schools Forum • Promote sustainable travel • Provide recycling and composting schemes
Improving homes & supporting households • Continue to promote Small steps advice service • Deliver Small steps home energy visits • Cavity wall and loft insulation • Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation • FITs projects • Affordable warmth
