  2. Pervasive • Per-vae-siv • Adjective • Definition: spread widely throughout, prevalent; extensive • The pervasive odor of burned garlic could be smelled two floors above the kitchen through a closed door. • Way to Remember: Pervase, I’ve searched extensively.

  3. Lothario • Lo-thair-ee-oh • Noun • Definition: man who seduces • He may think he’s a lothario, but the ladies think he’s a creep. • Way to Remember: An anagram of lothario is “Oi, Harlot!” Double standards: seductive females are called sluts. Harlot=Slut

  4. Maverick • Mav-er-ick • Noun • Definition: a motherless calf; an independent free-thinker; nonconformist • He’s a young maverick who thinks outside the box. • Way to Remember: Samuel A. Maverick was a farmer who decided not to brand his cattle, which was a popular practice in the 1800s.

  5. Nemesis • Nem-uh-sis • Noun • Definition: enemy • Batman’s nemesis blew up a hospital. • Way to Remember: Nemesis. Backwards: Sisemen. Sis-e-men. Sissy-men. Sissy men. Rupaul.

  6. Idyllic • Eye-dill-ick • Adjective • Definition: pleasing or picturesque • Most of the author’s work reflects an idyllic view of the world. • Way to Remember: Idyllic=Ideal
