This professional development unit focused on the development of an electronic resource for speech-language activities. The participant implemented strategies such as monthly meetings, collaboration with peers, and training to design and organize materials on a wikispace. The participant learned to upload materials, evaluate them critically, and now has access to a wider variety of resources. The PDU process was important for student learning and professional growth. Data analysis showed improved instruction, progress monitoring, student performance, and practice. The participant's next steps include exploring and using the website as a resource for ongoing professional development.

During the course of this PDU, what three instructional strategies did I implement? What strategy worked best? Why? • Monthly meetings with peers to come up with the best way to share therapy and teaching materials. Once the wikispace was decided upon we brainstormed ways to organize an the website to make it more user friendly. • Collaborated with peers about materials we all have to share via Google docs and email • Trained to design and add to the website by a department specialist. We learned how to upload and organize materials on the wikispace. • Monthly meetings to work in-person was the best strategy for me. It was good to participate in discussions with the whole group to improve the website.
What did I learn to do as a result of the PDU and strategy implementation in my practice? • I learned to upload materials to a websiteand new ways to access and share materials • I evaluated the materials and ideas that I uploaded to the website a new more critical way to make them as self-explanatory and user friendly as possible. • I now have access to a much wider variety of materials.
How did I apply the PDU strategies to the development of the website? (examples) Who did I collaborate with during the PDU? Discuss the ways you collaborated while implementing the PDU strategies. • I received training for wikispace development • I was able to troubleshoot ways to solve my own mistakes via email and during monthly meetings with my peers. • I collaborated with my peers on the best ways to organize the materials for ease of use in-person, and via email and google docs. • I was able to use what I learned in uploading materials and resources to the website.
Why is this PDU action research process important to my students learning and to my growth as a professional? • I now have greater access to a variety of therapy/teaching resources and techniques • I learned how to participate in development and maintenance of a website • Lesson planning time will decrease because I now have a ready resource. • I can more easily learn about aspects of my profession that are not my areas of strength • Other approaches to therapy will expand how I teach my students
PDU Data AnalysisReflecting on the data you have collected, how did this experience impact instruction, progress monitoring, student performance, and your own practice? • Colleagues who did not participate in the PDU responded to pre and post surveys to provide to improve the website and contribute other ideas. • I now have easy access to an electronic resource for therapy/teaching materials, approaches to therapy, and data collection
How will I apply my new learning in the future to further my practice? What are my next steps? • I will explore resources on the website • I will use resources on the website • I will read about and consider other approaches in my practice • I will be more efficient in lesson planning • I will be able to use this website as another source of ongoing professional development
