Using the LRC catalogue. This short presentation will show you how to use the LRC catalogue.
You can find the IPAC at: www.lipa.ac.uk/ipac • The IPAC is available through the internet – so you can use it from anywhere in the world! • The IPAC contains details of all the items held in the LRC. • You need to use the IPAC to find where an item is located on the shelves.
How to search the IPAC. Type what you are looking for into the appropriate box! Remember to check your spelling!
How to search the IPAC. Author SearchNot just writers Bands = BeatlesChoreographers = Morris, MarkComposers = Sondheim, StephenFilm Directors = Allen, Woody Remember, if you use the Alphabetical search you need to enter last name then first name Remember to check your spelling!
How to search the IPAC. Title SearchSearch for the title of the item you are looking for. You can also use this box to search for song titles. If you need a specific song you may find it on a compilation CD or score. Remember to check your spelling!
How to search the IPAC. Subject If you’re not certain of the Author or Title of an item, try a Subject Keyword search. Type in a general Subject term, such as “Alexander Technique” and the search will return all the items which match your search. Click Go when you’re ready to search. Remember to check your spelling!
How to search the IPAC. Further down the page… You can narrow down your search to specific collections. You can also sort your results alphabetically by Author or Title. Or sort them by publication date.

How to find your item. This tells you what the items is. It could be a CD, DVD, Book etc.
How to find your item. If this said On Loan, it would mean another student had already borrowed the item. If an item is On Loan you can Request it. More on requesting items later. This tells you the item is Available. This means it is in the LRC. Now you can find it and borrow it.
How to find your item. This tells you where the item will be. Items are kept in numerical order. Items on similar subjects will have similar numbers.
