NSLS Library Search Prompt Sheet Step 1: Log on to the Internet. Type in the Internet address for NSLS, which is www.nslsilus.org or go to Bookmarks, find NSLS. Click on LIASON Catalog. Step 2: You will need to choose under Search By: There are five search types. In search by, you can scroll to all headings, author, title, subject or notes. In “in” you should scroll to “Publics.” There are four options in change. I would start with the basic search. When you have highlighted your interest area in each box, go to the box, which says “For”. Type in a word to describe your search. For example, if you have author, publics, and basic search entered, you may want to type in Hemingway for author. Step 3: Conduct your search. Step 4: You will get listings in groups of 10. If the option has Impact/ONLINE Lender in parentheses, we can get the book. Click on your choice or use the choices at the bottom of the list such as next, back, etc., to review your options. When you click on a choice, a list of public libraries under “Holdings” will appear from which we can pursue an interlibrary loan. It will look something like this: Crystal Lake PL (for public library) Cary PL Copy down the coded information for the library closest to Huntley and ask Mrs. Mulcahy or Mrs. Christiansen for an order form at the front desk. They will fax off your request. Hopefully soon we will be equipped to order directly online and save the paperwork. Note: Be sure to click on “Help” if you are encountering difficulties with your search. This explains how to narrow your search with the use of quotations marks, the “+” sign and other hints to locate materials.
