  2. Mondovi High School Graduation Requirements • 24 credits to graduate • 4 English, 3 Social Studies, 2 Math, 2 Science, 1 ½ Phy. Ed., Health (M.S.), and Personal Finance • 4 Graduation Points • 10th Grade WKCE Test • Do you have all your point?

  3. 4-year College Admissions Criteria • 4 credits English (prefer Honors English) • 3 credits Social Studies • 3 credits Math (Algebra. 1 & higher) • 3 credits Science (Ag. Science???) • 2 credits Foreign Language???? • Madison, UW-Eau Claire, Minnesota and a variety of private colleges require two units of the same foreign language . . . Madison prefers 3 or more • UW-Platteville and UW-Milwaukee do not require foreign language to be admitted, but require it for graduation. • Plan accordingly…Know the requirements of the schools you are considering!!!!

  4. 4-year College Admissions Criteria continued… • ACT • Grade Point Average (GPA) • Class Rank • Rigor of schedule-What are you going to do to separate yourself from other applicants In Regards to rigor of schedule consider the following: • Quality vs. Quantity • What you have taken vs. What you could have taken. SENIOR YEAR SHOULD BE YOUR MOST DIFFICULT (GPA and Class Rank continue until Graduation)

ACT • ACT Test Dates: • April 14, 2012: Deadline is March 9th (March 10th – 23rd) • June 9, 2012: Deadline is May 4th (May 5th-18th) • MHS will host ACT for both test dates • MHS will be offering ACT Prep Course in March??? • MHS Test Center Code 224820 • Register online at www.actstudent.org • Fee = • $34.00 for ACT • $49.50 for ACT plus writing.

Compass Test • Test used for entrance into technical colleges • Test readiness level in Reading, Math, & Writing (English) • Used to place you in appropriate courses • Available at MHS almost any day • Registration quick and easy • Computerized progressive test • Untimed typically 1 ½ to 2 hours • $20

Other Post-Secondary Options • 2-Year Community/Junior Colleges • Meet minimum college entrance requirements and take ACT test • Technical Colleges • Check specific programs as they differ greatly (space is limited • Proprietary/Specialty School Schools • Subjective entry • Military • ASVAB and H.S. Diploma

  9. Emerging Technologies (Durand HS) AP Psychology (Durand HS) Does not replace Political Science and/or Intro. To Psych-Must take in addition to these courses Medical Terminology (1st Semester) (CVTC) Sign Language (NTC) Intro to Sociology (CVTC) Must still take Political Science and Psych. Intro to College Writing (Eng. 110 UWMWC) Must still take English 12 or Honors English Distance Learning Classes

  10. Distance Learning Notes: • English 110 requires a college placement test and state youth options form • Sociology and Med. Term. require a CVTC youth options form • Sign Language requires a NTC youth options form • All students must sign a contract with district and must earn a C or better • Limited room, if needed GPA will be used • English 110, Sociology, Med.Term, and Sign Lang. offer dual credit- college and HS credit

Teachers Assistant • Must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA- waiver available • Must take seven courses other than TA…in essence TA replaces your study hall • Grade will be on a pass/fail which will not affect your GPA • Can receive no more than one credit over entire HS career • Can take a TA for no credit as well- replaces study hall and does not count as class • Must submit application at time of registration • Course numbers: TA for credit 2991 and 2992, TA for no credit 31 and 32

  12. Independent Study • Must be approved by teacher • Offers students the ability to take a course not offered in the registration handbook • Designed to provide students an advanced opportunity in a specific subject area • Course content and requirements vary depending on arrangement between teacher and student • Course numbers are 51 and 52

  13. Agriculture as Science???? • Plants. Greenhouse, and Landscaping, Vet. Science, and Food Science are accepted as science credit • Will count towards your two credits of science • At this time they will not count towards your three credits of science for collegiate entrance • Plan accordingly!!!!

  14. Certified Work Experience(CWE) • School supervised work experience during school hours • Students can earn ½ credit per semester of CWE (must work approximately 10-15 hours per week and show a pay stub) • Students will earn ½ credit per semester of CWE regardless of how many hours you are working. Students can have a max of 3 hrs off • Students are allowed to come in late and/or leave early • Removed from program if you are failing at any grading period and you have any unexcused absences

  15. Miscellaneous No Credit • State law allows all seniors on track for graduation to miss one period a day • MHS allows students to miss either 1st or 8th hour • We can not guarantee what hour you will have off • Athletes keep in mind practice after school you may want to consider coming in late • Course #s are 11 and 12 • Students do not have to do this and can do for only one semester if they wish

  16. Physical Education& Health • Advanced Fitness • Body Shop Fitness • Team Sports • Lifetime Activities • Outdoor Adventures • Health (Does not count as PE credit) • Can take courses multiple times • Classes will be taught both semester • All PE teachers will teach

  17. Summer School 2012 • Runs four weeks from June 18th to July 13th • Classes run Mon.-Fri. in the morning • This year we will offer Math and/or English/Social Studies • Session 1 8:00-10:15 and Session 2 10:30-12:45 • Students can earn ½ credit for each • Grades are on a Pass/Fail basis • Phy. Ed. offered in afternoon for ¼ credit

  18. Driver’s Education • Cost is $325 • Available in the summer from July 16th-Aug. 3rd M-F 8:00-10:00 • Questions contact Safety and Respect Driving School

  19. Registration Sheets • Please check Pre-Printed ID labels • Please circle English 12 or Honors English and write in the corresponding course number • Political Science and Intro. Psychology already entered…everyone must take • Do you need to make up a failed course…if so plan on summer school or reenroll next year • If interested write in misc. no credit as an elective and hour of preference (1st or 8th)…Course numbers 11 and 12

Registration Sheets…Cont. • Choose 4 alternatives and rank them…choose them carefully as if you would have to take them!!! • Total credits and circle at the top left of the registration sheet • Mark in top left corner intentions for after high school • Write clearly so Mrs. Brenner can read it!!! • Registration sheets will be collected tomorrow (Feb. 2nd) at the beginning of your English class • Students who do not return a completed registration sheet will be required to register during their study hall that day

  21. Registering for Courses • Course numbers: odd=1st semester and even=2nd semester • Make sure course number matches course title • Choices do not equal class period • If course is two semesters then you must enter it in both semesters • If course has two course numbers and meets for only one semester please choose semester in which you want course… (example-Foods 1) • Please pay attention to courses that meet 1 semester vs. 2 semester

  22. Options for next year • Honors English vs. English 12, Need a “B” in English 11 or better to take Honors • College bound students…highly consider taking a math, science, and/or foreign language course next year • Technical College bound students check your programs entrance requirements • Is distance learning right for you??? • Have a job???...think about CWE • Art- All art classes are available w/o Intro. • Do you need a study hall with AO??? • Choose electives wisely!!!

  23. Final Registration Thoughts: • According to technical colleges and universities your Senior year should be your most difficult year in HS • Athletes remember that you need six classes to remain eligible as per WIAA rules • Physics II, Ag. Mech. & Adv. Metals, Basic Electricity, Health, Photography II, Computer Technology, and Web Page & Design are new(er) courses • Numerous course title changes…Ag. Dept. • Statistics offered both semesters • Plants, Greenhouse, & Landscaping is transcripted credit at CVTC • Show Choir vs. Chorus…or both • Journalism/Mass Communications…must receive permission from Mr. Brieske • Physics is not a math course!!!
