  2. ESTABLISHMENT OF THE MANGO ORCHARD • 1. Select the Suitable site for mango growing • 2. Select good planting materials free from pest and diseases. • 3. Distance planting at least 15 to 20 meters apart to allow full sunlight and free air flow between trees. • 4. Plant intercrops suitable to mango.

  3. FARM OPERATIONS • 1. Adopt clean culture. Plow and cultivate at least once a year. Prune periodically. • 2. Keep grasses and cover crops low. • 3. Control pest and diseases naturally. • 4. Provide irrigation, suitable water supply. • 5. Feed the trees with natural organic and biological (BMO) fertilizers. Protect and enhance vigor of trees with HOC.

  4. NATURE OF THE PHILIPPINE CARABAO MANGO • 1. The Philippine Carabao Mango is a big tree, a biennial bearer (every two years). From seed start bearing in 7-10 years, and earlier with grafted seedlings. • 2. It needs plenty of sunlight covering the whole crown from sunrise to sun set. • 3. It needs sufficient supply of plant food nutrients preferably in organic sources. • It responds to cultural innovation.

  5. PREPARING TREES FOR PRODUCTION • 1. Care and Management of young trees up to bearing stage. (5-6 years). • 2. Care and Management of Bearing trees. • 3. Adopt a one year cycle of 4 months production and 8 months rejuvenation. • 4. Consider the climate and weather condition prevailing in your farm area. • 5. Consider prevailing pests and diseases.

  6. PRODUCTION STAGE • 1. Day 0: Production stage start with flower induction. Spraying or smudging. • 2. 7 – 39 DAFI: Bud break, flower development up to pollination. • 3. 40 – 89 DAFI: Fruit formation and development. • 4. 90 – 114 DAFI: Fruit maturation. • 5. 115 – 135 DAFI: Full maturity and harvesting stage.

  7. PROTECTION OF FLOWERS AND FRUITS • 1. The regimented use of Agro synthetic chemicals can now be replaced with organic based pest and disease control becoming available like HOC and others. • 2. The Establishment of Mango Orchard and Farm Operations are intended to reduce or minimize pest and diseases. • Use of natural and mechanical controls.

  8. SELF RELIANT AND SUSTAINABLE FARMING • 1. We are teaching farmers to make their own fertilizers and pest control concoction produce and grown in their own farms. See in your kit and 11th NMC - CD. • 2. We have ready formulated organic fertilizers nationwide (Sagana 100) and HOC (Herbal Organic Concentrate) for nutrition, pest and disease control.

  9. INFORMATION, RD&E • These are simple steps and information for ready understanding. For more information, Research, Development and Extension, get in touch with PMIFI, NMAT or contact: • REX A. RIVERA, Agronomist • Email: rarivera8@yahoo.com • Tel.: 083-301-0117 Mobile: 0905-242-2691
