Session contents • Introduction (Dawn) • Planning for digitization (Beth) • Scanning and creating PDF files from scans (Yongli) • Quality control (Amy) • Ask questions at any time!
Why we’re offering this session • We have learned of digitization initiatives in campus departments; • We know there is variation in practices and procedures;
Why we’re offering this session • We would like to share what we have learned so you can produce a high-quality, scanned document that will be easily accessed, read, downloaded, and printed and more likely to be preserved in future years; • Digitization requires a commitment of time and effort
“Born digital” vs. scanned documents • Ideally, you can locate print documents in their original digital form and avoid scanning • Advantages: • Smaller file size • Better quality • Running the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) process is not necessary
Session follow-up • The Libraries do not currently offer routine scanning services for campus units • We are most happy to offer follow-up, hands-on training in our lab for interested persons • Contact Dawn Paschal or Beth Oehlerts: • Dawn.Paschal@colostate.edu • Beth.Oehlerts@colostate.edu
