  1. Aim By the end of the lesson we need to have completed some research to help us to answer this question: How do Muslim believers and Catholic believers communicate with God by praying? Recap • What did you find out for your homework? • What can you tell us about how Muslims and Catholics pray? You are going to need this information for today’s task…

  2. Challenge Make an information poster explaining how Muslims or Catholics pray. What? You are working in groups of 3-4. You will need to choose whether you are going to look at how Muslims pray or how Catholics (a part of Christianity) pray. How? You have 2 lessons to complete the poster (this is the first of your 2 lessons. You need to research how Muslims or Catholics pray – you will be given material to use for your reseacrh. Each poster must include: Who do Muslims/Catholics pray to? What do Muslims/Catholics use to pray? Where do Muslims/Catholics pray? How do Muslims/Catholics pray? Do Muslims/Catholics do anything before they pray? You will need to make sure that your posters are bright, interesting, colourful & eye catching!

  3. How long? After today’s lesson you will have 2 lessons to complete your poster. You will also need to use your homework & next lesson. What materials will you have? You will have large coloured paper, pencil crayons, felts, your exercise books & the computers. You can also use anything you bring in from home. You will also have: Some things to do with prayer to look at. For Muslim prayer: ‘Think RE’, pg 12-13 ‘New Steps in RE: bk 1’, pg 64-65 Discovering Religions: Islam’, pg 14 For Catholic prayer: ‘New Steps in RE: bk 1’, pg 10-11 & pg 61 How will your work be evaluated? At the end of the 2 lessons you will evaluate your work. There will also be rewards for the best work.

  4. Fair play rules To do well in football you need to play by the ‘Fair Play Rules’. These mean that: All members of the team consider each other. All members of the team play for each other (it’s a team effort!) People don’t foul each other. It’s the team that will do well (or not!) not individual members. The team plays to it’s strengths. All team members work hard for each other. What do the fair play rules mean for us in our classroom today?

  5. Chunk the Challenge! In your own words, in the back of your books, write down what you have to do in this challenge. Don’t put any of your own ideas down yet, just stick to writing down what I’ve just told you, in your own words.

  6. Prayer Challenge We have to…            You can now begin your research - we will spend this lesson researching & then next lesson we will begin making the posters.

  7. What do you think now? What have you found out today about… How do Muslim & Catholic believers communicate with God by praying?
