Mentoring – What skillls? • Common selection criteria • Communication Skills • Leadership Skills • Passion / Attitude / Commitment • Teamwork • Critical Reasoning • Emotional Intelligence • Extra Curricular Activities • Values Fit / Cultural Awareness • Initiative / Resourcefulness – not the expert in where everything is, but the expert in knowing who/what to ask Your mentoring experience demonstrates these. How do employers let you know what they want? • Assistant Managers - Business Banking • We are seeking applications from a highly motivated individuals or successful graduates to support a Relationship Manager on the day to-day management and growth of their portfolio. As part of a strong team of talented banking professionals, you will work closely with a wide range of clients helping them with their key financing and strategic issues. • You ideally have financial analysis skills, exposure to the business sector, with an understanding of banking and lending principals. With a passion for customer service, you enjoy working in a team environment. Outstanding verbal and written communication and time management skills are a must, with a business orientated tertiary qualification preferred.

Resume layout • Skills • Link skills to achievements • Highlight your • Strengths • Skills employers are looking for • Achievements • Don’t list duties – focus on outcomes • Leadership • Example: Was a mentor for first year students to orient to university life. Feedback from students indicated they found a great way to get important information
Cover letter • Individual and targeted • What YOU can bring to this position with this organisation • Shows what you can do for them • Link to the skills the employer has identified in job ad • Follow up with detail in resume • Reflect a particular interest in working for the organisation • Keep it short – one page
Keeping Track • Master Resume • - include lots of examples against as many skills, achievements as you can think of • Tailored resume & cover letter for each employer • Save As copies for each employer & record closing date • Follow up call 2 weeks later • Relevant examples not used can be used in interview
