Overview • Where do we get Director and PowerExec? • Where do we run the software? • How do we set up Director and PE? • What information can we get?
Where to get Director and PowerExecutive • Director CDs we have in lab are not correct version for PowerExecutive (too old) • IBM Director v5.20 available at http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/management/director/downloads.html • IBM PowerExecutive v2.10 available at http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/management/director/extensions/powerexec.html
Where to Install Director and PE • IBM Director Agent on BladeServer (vmware-server) • IBM Director Server on PC to manage BladeCenter and individual Blades using Director Console (our server running on Windows, more setup required with Linux) • PowerExecutive as a plug-in to Director (Agent and Server)
Setup • Once install in complete, Plug Director Server into server room network • Director will then “Discover” BladeCenter and Blades automatically (and SNMP enabled devices) • Can also enter IPs manually • BladeCenter has management software preinstalled which allows you to see all of the blades contained within
