  5. School Hours at BGHS Excel Period (Zero Period) 7:30 am to 8:20 am Regular School Day 1st – 6th periods 8:30 am to 3:05 pm

  6. Words you need to know… • Credit---Official certification that a student has completed a course. At BGHS, we have whole (1) credit courses and half (1/2) credit courses. • Semester---One of the two divisions of an academic year. 1st semester--the start of school to winter break (August – December). 2nd semester--after winter break until the end of the year (January – May) • Prerequisite—What is required before you can take a class • Transcript---A student’s academic record. • Core Courses—Academic courses recognized by the NCAA Clearinghouse • No—We will not, and you will not

Math Requirement • All students are required to take a math course every year of high school. • This can include: Pre-Algebra Algebra I Accelerated Algebra I Geometry Accelerated Geometry Geometry Pre-AP Algebra II Accelerated Algebra II Algebra II Pre-AP Algebra III Pre-Calculus Pre-Calculus Pre-AP AP Calculus AP Statistics Math 116-WKU AP Computer Science Foundations in Personal Finance

  8. Diploma Choices • Merit Diploma 22 credits minimum required • Comprehensive Diploma 24 credits minimum required

  9. Merit Diploma • English English I, II, III, IV 4 credits • Science Any three science classes 3 credits to include: life science, physical science, and earth/space science. • Math Alg. I, Geometry, Alg. II 3 credits • Social Studies World Civ., U. S. History, 3 credits Political Science • Health / P.E. ½ credit health, ½ credit P.E. 1 credit • Humanities History of Performing/Visual Art Embedded Total REQUIRED Credits = 14 Plus ELECTIVE Credits = 8 (minimum) TOTAL CREDITS=22

  10. Comprehensive Diploma • English English I, II, III, IV 4 credits • Science Biology, Chemistry, Physics 3 credits Anatomy/Physiology or higher • Math Alg. I, Geometry, Alg. II 3 credits • Social Studies World Civ., U. S. History, 3 credits Political Science • Health / P.E. ½ credit health, ½ credit P.E. 1 credit • Humanities History of Performing/Visual Art Embedded • Foreign Language two classes from same language 2 credits Total REQUIRED Credits = 16 Plus ELECTIVE Credits = 8 (minimum) TOTAL CREDITS=24

  11. Pre-College Curriculum-PCC(classes that must be completed successfully in high school before entering college) • English English I, II, III, IV 4 credits • Math Alg. I, Geometry, Alg. II 3 credits • Science Credits to include life 3 credits science, physical science, and earth/space science (at least one lab course). • Social Studies From U. S. History, 3 credits Economics, Government, World Geography, and World Civilization. • Health / P.E. ½ Health, ½ P.E. 1 credit • History and Appreciation of Visual, Performing Arts 1 credit • Foreign Language or demonstrate competency 2 credits • Electives 5 credits (3 must be rigorous) • (Recommended strongly: 1 or more courses that develop computer literacy.) Total REQUIRED Credits = 17 Plus ELECTIVE Credits = 5(minimum) TOTAL CREDITS=22

Grade Point AverageClass Rank • A temporary GPAis figured at the end of each year and a final one is done during the senior year. • Rank in class is determined by the numerical grade point average. • The final averagesof all courses are counted in figuring the numerical GPA. • The student receives a decimal GPA based on a 4.0 scale with the following values assigned A=4 B=3 C=2 D=1 F=0
