Introduction • Jason McKinney • Technology Services Senior Consultant • McGladrey & Pullen, LLP • Based out of Downtown Minneapolis • SharePoint Consulting since 2007 • Experience with 2003, 2007, and 2010 • Technology ‘Geek’ • Always trying to stay ahead of the tsunami of technology but keep a sense of humor
Purpose of Today? • Can we get users access to GP data without having to give them access to GP? • Yes • Why? • Training • Security • $ Licensing $ • How? • Let’s keep rollin’
How? • Dynamics GP Light User Licensing • Typically a fraction of the price of a Business Essentials or Advanced Management CAL. • Allows GP data retrieval • Allows GP data manipulation • Benefits? • Keeps all users on the same page; no need to sync data or wait for the nightly batch. • Little to no customizations required
Business Intelligence Tools • Excel Reports • Over 200 reports available • Office 2007 & 2010 Compatible • SQL Reporting Services • Over 200 reports available via report viewer or browser based tools. • Analysis Cubes • 6 pre configured • Management Report Viewer • Secured Financial Statements
Dynamics GP SharePoint • Dashboards (Today’s Demo) • Tailored to roles in the organization • External Lists* • Instant updates to vendor or customer details • Business Portal (Today’s Demo) • Time & Expense, Requisition Mgmt, HR, etc. • Approval Workflows (Today’s Demo) • Enterprise Search** * Requires SharePoint 2010 ** Requires SharePoint Server 2007 or 2010
What is Required? • Dynamics GP 2010 • 32-bit compatible with SharePoint 2007 • 64-bit required for SharePoint 2010 • SharePoint • Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0 (“Free”) • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 • SharePoint Foundation 2010 (“Free”) • SharePoint Server 2010
Licensing Notes • Dynamics GP • BE and AM CALs are based on concurrent users • Light User CALs are based on named users • SharePoint • WSS or Foundation: CALs are based on AD users, no need to purchase separate CAL. • Server: a CAL is required for each named user; this includes Standard + Enterprise CALs if Enterprise Features are enabled.
SharePoint Words of Wisdom • Build Outside of Business Portal • Sites, Lists, Libraries, Workflows, etc. • Isolate by separate Web Application if possible • Beware of the “Fab 40” Templates • No longer supported in SharePoint 2010
Project Example • University of Minnesota • Classroom Technical Services • Project Sponsor: Chuck Bottemiller • Dynamics GP / SharePoint Integrations • Service Tickets • Inventory Pick Lists • Dashboards • SQL Reporting
