The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program FOR Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) in Oregon serves over 110,000 participants monthly. You are eligible for WIC if you: • Live in Oregon • Fit into one of the categories • Have a household income that is less than or equal to the income guidelines
WIC is everywhere! • All States • All 36 Counties in Oregon • Between 1/3-1/2 of all births are WIC clients • Federally funded only. No Oregon funding. • (???Add your clinic locations here)
Legal Status Citizenship is NOT required to receive WIC services. Participation in WIC will not impact a participant’s ability to receive other services or to attain citizenship.
OHP 70% WIC clients also receive benefits from other Assistance Programs SNAP 50% TANF 10%
What happens at a WIC visit? A WIC counselor will… • Measure for height and weight • Assess iron levels • Complete a health assessment • Offer nutrition education • Refer to a nutritionist or community resources
Trained WIC Staff All WIC staff have been trained in providing good customer service and motivational interviewing.
WIC counselors… talk to you about good nutrition and give you vouchers for healthy foods.
Fruit and Veggie Vouchers! Cash value-vouchers (mainly $6 & $10) for fruits and vegetables for children and women Choose from fresh and frozen fruits or vegetables

What is new for 2014? All WIC participants will get a card instead of paper vouchers to buy WIC foods. This will simplify grocery shopping for everyone.
