  1. Rigid vs. Flexible Joint Case Packaging: Differences Explained One of the most important functions of packaging is protection of the contents as well as presenting the brand in an attractive form. In addition, your choice of packaging material determines the longevity of the product. That said, there are different types of joint packaging. Chief among them are rigid and flexible joint case packaging. In order to understand the unique aspects of the two types of packaging, it’s important to note their differences. The Structure Rigid packaging is constructed in such a way that it does not yield when pressure is applied on it. Thus, it is the most suitable choice when utmost protection of the marijuana product is needed. Examples of products that may require this type of packaging include cannabis flowers since there is a need to prevent crushing of the head which may in turn result into a higher oxidation rate for terpernoids and cannabinoids. On the other hand, flexible packaging easily yields to pressure and may assume another shape other than the original after the product is put in and it is sealed. The main advantages of flexible packaging include the ease of shipment since they claim no much extra space. However, they are not suitable for packaging some cannabis products. The Material As mentioned, rigid packaging does not yield easily. This means that the material used in the construction is hard—usually metal or glass. It is an excellent choice when presentation of the product is of utmost importance. Apart from the fact that it is safer than flexible packaging because of its inert nature, its ease of cleaning ensures a longer shelf life.

  2. Accessibility One of the greatest benefits of flexible packaging is that you can use the product to the last drop, especially considering the fact that the material used in the making of the container can be squeezed or twisted to enable the movement of most of the contents from the container. However, it’s a different case with rigid containers. Once they assume a certain shape, it cannot be changed, thereby affecting the accessibility of the product by users, particularly where concentrates and oils are concerned. Transparency Some rules and regulations concerning joint packaging require only the use of opaque material in order to discourage children from getting curious about the contents. Unfortunately, some types of rigid joint packaging are transparent. Therefore, you may need to cover the package up with a bag or something that will hide the contents. It is usually different with flexible containers since they come with colors that make them opaque. Ease of Labeling Labeling is an essential element in branding of the product and providing information on the type and recommended ways of using the product. While you can easily print the information on most flexible packages, it is not so with rigid packaging. Again, the material comes into play. It is not as easy to print on metal or glass as it is with plastic bags. Final Thoughts Remember that the material used in packaging often determines rigidity or flexibility. More importantly, it has a great influence on the safety and longevity of the contents. For example, plastic can be produced by certain oils which are a product of cannabis. Therefore, there should be great care when choosing the kind of joint case, especially with regard to the form in which the cannabis is sold or stored.
