  2. Do you ever wonder about humpback whales?

  3. First of all, there are about 20,000 humpback whales in the oceans worldwide.

  4. Next is the size. They can be 40 to 50 feet long and weigh up to 48 tons! Their diet is krill and fish.

  5. Did you know that a whale’s flippers can be one third of their body length?

  6. Then we have the sounds. Whistles and rumbling can be heard for 20 minutes from up to 20 miles away. Only male whales make true songs. Humpback whales do not have vocal cords, so people think that they probably sing by circulating air.

  7. Finally are the babies. When they are born, calves average 13 feet in length. They weigh 2 tons. Newborns consume 100 pounds of milk each day for 5 to 7 months. After about 6 months, calves have nearly doubled their size.

  8. Now you know about humpback whales!
