PRIMARY SCHOOL (SZKOŁA PODSTAWOWA) Duration – 6 years Kids 7-13 years old Dividedintotwocycles I-III forms (an integratedcycle) IV-VI forms (a block - basedcycle) Thosegraduatingfromthe 6 yearprimaryschoolareawardedthecertificate of completion of educationintheprimaryschoolwhichprovidesaccess to gymnasium

MIDDLE SCHOOL (GIMNAZJUM) Duration 3 years All primaryleaverscontinuetheireducationinthegimnasium Teenagers 13-16 years old Educationinthegymnasiumendswith an examinationwhichcovers knowledge and skillsinhumanities, matematics and natural science. Theexaminationiscompulsory. Gymnasiumleaversareawardedthecertifieate of completion of educationinthegymnasium

GENERAL SECONDARY SCHOOL (LICEUM OGÓLNOKSZTAŁCĄCE) • Duration 3 years • StudentstakeMaturityExaminthefinal form (althoughitis not compulsary) • Thegraduatesobtainthecertificate of completion of educationinthe general secondaryschool,whichconfernsneitherrights to gainaccess to highereducationinstitutions nor vocationalqualifications. Whereasthesegraduateswhohavepassedthematurityexaminationobtainthematuritycertificate of the general secondaryschool • Graduates of General SecondarySchoolcancontinuetheireducationeitheratuniversity (highereducation) orinthepast-secondaryschool.

  6. SPECIALIZED SECONDARY SCHOOL (LICEUM PROFILOWANE) • Duration 3 years • Provideseducationin a dozen of general vocationalspecializationscorresponding to theexistingfields of economy and thelabour market needs. • Currently, therearethefollowingspecializations: chemical examination of environment, economy and administration, electronic, electronic and technicalspecialization, clothes design, landspacearchitecture, forestry and wood technology, mechanicproductiontechniques , mechatronics, food and agriculture, social science, transport and dispatching, services and economy, informationmenagement, artistic and appiledcraftsin metal. The establishment of thistype of schoolresultedfromthenecessity of facingsuch modern chalenges of thelabour market as multiplechange of vocationalqualificationsduringwholeprofessionalcareer of individuals.

  7. SPECIALIZED SECONDARY SCHOOL (LICEUM PROFILOWANE) Thegraduates- havingpassedthematurityexaminationinaccordancewiththenewformula – will be awardedthematuritycertificate of thespecialisedsecondaryscoool. Holders of thismaturitycertificatemayapply for admission to highereducationinstitution. Thegraduateswho will not taketheabovematurityexamination will be awardedthecertificate of completion of educationinthespecialisedsecondaryschool, whichis a documentconfirmingthesecondaryeducation and general vocationalpreparation of itsholder. Howeveritdoes not entitleditsholder to apply for admission to a highereducationinstitution.

  8. TECHNICAL SECONDARY SCHOOL (TECHNIKUM) • Duration 4 years • Thegraduates of technicalsecondaryschools, who do not enter for thematurityexamination, obtainthecertificate of completion of educationinthetechnicalsecondaryschool. Whereasthegraduateswhohavepassedthematurityexamination, obtain a maturitycertificate of thetechnicalsecondaryschool, whichentitlesthem to apply for theadmission to highereducationinstitutions and havingpassedthevocationalexamination- thediploma of vocationaltitle

BASIC VOCATIONAL SCHOOL (ZASADNICZA SZKOŁA ZAWODOWA) • Duration 2 years • Thecertificate of completion of educationinthebasicvocationalschoolconfirmsthatitsholderhasbeenawardedthetitle of skilledworkerorworkedwithequivalentqualifications. Thecertificatealsoentitlesitsholders to apply for admission to general orvocationalsecondaryschoolswherecoursesareorganised as a follow-up to thebasicschool curriculum.

  10. SUPPLEMENTARY SECONDARY SCHOOL (UZUPEŁNIAJĄCE LICEUM OGÓLNOKSZTAŁCĄCE) • Duration 2 years • For thosewhowish to continuetheireducation on secondarylevel. After 2-year educationitsgraduatesmay sit thematurityexamination, and havingpasseditmay by awardedthematuritycertificate of the general secondaryschool, entitlingthem to apply for theadmission to a highereducationinstitution. • Thosewho not enter for thematurityexamination will obtain a certificate of completion of educationinthe general secondaryschool.

  11. SUPLEMENTARY TECHNICAL SCHOOL (TECHNIKUM UZUPEŁNIAJĄCE) • Duration 2 years • Afterthe 2 yeareducationitsgraduatesmay sit for thematurityexamination and havingpasseditmay be awardedthematuritycertificate of thetechnicalsecondaryschool, entitlingthem to apply for theadmission to a highereducationinstitution and havingpassedthevocationalexamination – thediploma of vocationaltitle. • Thosewho not enter for thematurityexamination will obtain a certificate of completion of educationinthetechnicalsecondaryschool.

  12. MATURITY EXAMINATION Maturityexamination- is a form of assessment of thelevelpupils general education; itchecksknowledge and skillsdefindedintheexaminationrequirementsstandards; itconsists of a written and oral part. Howevertheexaminationrequirementsstandardsaredevelopedwithregard to so calledcore curriculum for therespectivelevels of education – itmeansthecanonbasicteachingcontens.

  13. POST-SECONDARy SCHOOLS (Szkoły policealne) • Duration 2 years, for nurses and midwifes 2,5 years • Post secondaryschoolsaredividedintowhereapplicantsarerequired to holdonlythecertificate of completion of secondaryeducation, and wheretherequirementadmissionisthematuritycertificate. • Thosegraduatingfrom a Post-secondaryschoolareawardedthecertificate of completion of education and thosegraduatingfrom a (for nurses and midwifes) obtainthediploma of completion of education.

  14. HIGHER EDUCATION (STUDIA WYŻSZE) Nearlyallhighereducationinstitutionsofferedonly uniform master-levelcourseslasting 4, 4.5 or 5 yearswhichendwithstudentswriting and defending a master thesis. Graduatesareawardedtheprofessionaltitle of Master of Arts (magister) or magister inżynier in a givenspecialisation. Thosewhohadcompletedthesemaster-levelcoursesareentitled to apply for admission to doctoratestudieswhichendwithstudentswriting and defending a doctoralthesis, takingexaminations, and subsequentlybeingawardedtheacademicdegree of doctor. Theonlytype of a highervocationaleducationschoolis a 4-year school of engineering wherecoursesled to thediploma of engineer.
