  4. Things to Look For in the Data

  5. Questions to Ask • What appear to be our weakest strands? • What are our course patterns? • Are students taking the most rigorous courses? • Where are our students performing the strongest?

  6. Increase College and Career Readiness • Make core curriculum a priority for all students • Make sure all students have access to and take rigorous courses • Provide access for all students to take ACT assessments • Plan guidance activities based on students’ career and college aspirations

  7. What is Core • 4 Years of English • 3 Years of Social Science • 3 Years Math- Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II • 3 Years Science –Biology, Chemistry, Physics

  8. Courses Some districts have used data from EXPLORE, PLAN and ACT item analysis data to modify course order, especially in science.

  9. Courses Does Course Order Make A Difference?

  10. Courses • Which courses add value to student college and career readiness? • Which do not?

  11. Courses • Determine cut points for probable course success • Provide remedial help for students below the cut points on entry level courses, i.e. Algebra 1 • Track success

  12. Courses Review your Data Disc and ask the question: “Which courses are presenting our students with difficulty?”

  14. Students • Grades are not always an indication of college readiness. • Look for students with low GPA’s and high college readiness scores. • Look for students with high GPA’s and low college readiness scores.

  15. Students • How many students in your schools took core classes? • How many students took less than core classes? • In what areas do students say they need help? • What students have GPA’s that don’t match expected ACT scores?
