Health Education & Community Health Studies Accomplishments of Phase I • Curriculum for Paramedics/EMTs developed, piloted, & adopted by CCSF’s EMT program for ongoing use • Developed interactive website for online education, using the Emergency Medical Technician curriculum • Taught tech-enhanced course on Elder Abuse Prevention to a more general CCSF population using the website; offered again this semester • Presented curriculum & website at the California Community College Assn. for Occupational Education 10/07 Conference; working w/ RHORC

  3. Get Smart - Phase I Connect Community College programs already training frontline health workers with experts in the field of aging and elder abuse prevention Community Colleges provide unparalleled access to mandated reporters

  4. Challenges - Phase I • Focus Elder Abuse Prevention course to the targeted population of frontline Emergency Response in face of interest from the general CCSF student population • Technical and educational questions regarding teaching online classes and tech-enhanced courses using website

  5. Phase II Goals • Further develop, use & evaluate Elder Abuse Alert website for online & tech-enhanced trainings • Finalize curriculum and training model for frontline emergency response personnel • Adapt curriculum for Health Care Interpreters and Community Health Workers • Explore adapting curriculum for home health aides • Disseminate curricula to other community colleges • Explore feasibility of a fee-based training institute for incumbent emergency response personnel

  6. Surprise! • The enthusiasm from emergency first responder, health care interpreter, and community health workers program heads and instructors to augment their elder abuse prevention curriculum and emphasize recognition and reporting
