It is the role of the father and mother, accompanied by the godparents to present the child to the Church for baptism.
4. The Parents Because of the natural relationships, parents have a more important role in the baptism of infants than the godparents.
It is very important that the parents should be present in the celebration.
After baptism, it is the responsibility of the parents to enable the child to know God, live and practice the Faith.

I now trace the cross on your forehead, and invite your parents and godparents to do the same.”
6. The reception of the child is to indicate the desire of the parents and godparents as well as the intention of the Church, concerning the celebration of the sacrament of baptism.
These are expressed in action when the parents (and godparents) and the celebrant trace the sign of the cross on the forehead of the child.
