What is Confirmation? • Confirmation is a Sacrament of Initiation • It is a sacrament through which the Holy Spirit comes to us in a special way and enables us to profess our faith as strong and perfect Christians of Jesus Christ.

Confirmation is… • “Insurance” • Makes us certain that we will always be followers of Jesus Christ • A sign of maturity • strengthens our bond within the Catholic Church as we reach adulthood • this is why we are Confirmed in our teenage years
How to prepare for Confirmation… • We receive the sacraments of Baptism, Penance and Holy Eucharist prior to Confirmation • Participate in voluntary works/community service (ministers to our community) • Choose a saint that you would model yourself after. • This will be your “Confirmation name.” • Attend Mass every Sunday during the course of preparation.
How to prepare for Confirmation… • Grow in pray and deepen awareness of God • Candidates will choose a sponsor (someone above the age of 16 and a practicing Catholic) to assist in the Confirmation process • Along the same lines as a godparent • Candidate should choose someone who can be a good role model • We receive Confirmation in the presence of a Bishop (not a priest)
Confirmation in the future… • Our graces after Confirmation can also be restored by consistently attending confession. • Confirmation also leads to Sacraments of Service such as Holy Orders and Matrimony
