JEHOVAH’S WITNESS BELIEFS
TID BITS • Officially known as Watchtower and Tract Society. • Jehovah as most high God, they are his witnesses.
TID BITS • Today number over 6 million- Brazil and U.S. biggest. • Trinity-There is no such thing (3 in 1). In fact their own writing say that," Satan is the Originator of the trinity doctrine” (Let God be True, 1946).
BELIEFS • “The members are zealous and sincere and claim to accept the Bible as their only authority. However, their theology denies every cardinal belief of historic Christianity including the Trinity, the divinity of Jesus Christ, His bodily resurrection, salvation by grace through faith, and the eternal punishment of the wicked” (Handbook of Today’s Religion, 45).
JESUS • Jesus is not God, rather he is Michael the Archangel. • Perfect man, became Messiah at Baptism. • After spiritual resurrection, became Michael again but retains the name of Jesus.
GOD • God- Jesus is a God and lesser than Jehovah God. • In the JW Bible John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the word. The Word was with God and the Word was A God.” Not the God but A God..
BIBLE • The New World Translation of the Bible is Jehovah's Witnesses own translation. • No other religious group uses this Bible • Jehovah's Witnesses make very little use of other Bibles. • Wants to make you think beleifs are the same.
SALVATION • Salvation- Not regarded as a free gift from God, rather their literature stress salvation by works. “They must be recovered from blindness as well as from death, that they , each for himself, may have a full chance to prove, by obedience or disobedience, their worthiness of life eternal” (Studies in the Scriptures, Vol. 1, p 158).
SALVATION • To get one’s name in the book of life will depend on one’s works, whether they are in fulfillment of God’s will land approved by his judge and king.
SALVATION • Salvation requires that one accept Bible doctrines as interpreted by the Governing Body, be baptized as a Jehovah's Witness and follow the program of works as laid out by the Governing Body.
HELL • Watchtower denies the existence of hell as a place of punishment for the wicked. • They say it is Unscriptural and unreasonable and contrary to God’s love.
HELL • Only 144,000 will spend with God (the anointed). The other will live on paradise earth. • Lest than 1% chance to spend eternity with God (.024) • All others will be destroyed, cease to exist (non believers).
WITNESSING • Obvious why the witness. • Want to be one of the 144,000 and want to “do right.”
QUESTIONS FOR JEHOVAH’S WITNESS • Was Jesus death on the cross not enough to cover our sins. • Do I have to go through life wondering if I will be one of the 144,000. • Overall- true love and concern for one will allow you to share your beliefs.
