DfES e-Strategy The DfES priority areas are: • An integrated online education information service • Integrated online personal support for children and learners • Develop a collaborative approach to personalised learning activities • A good quality training and support package for ICT practitioners • Prove leadership and development package for organisational capability in ICT • Build a common digital infrastructure to support transformation and reform.

  3. Other aspects • Clearer definition of what is meant by elearning • Blended learning rather than pure elearning • Role of academic libraries • Student and staff support and development

  4. Analysis of the current state of elearning in HE • Significant increase but still different levels of engagement • Most institutions are now taking a more strategic approach, investing in staff and resources. • Costs still prohibitive • Support for staff and students alike is needed

  5. Research, evaluation and review • Further research is needed, including analysis of existing evidence, employer input and evaluation of developments overseas • Sharing of good practice is needed • Need to see if elearning really does enhance learning • Research Councils need to be involved
