  3. 2010 ITAG Work Plan • Complete Browser Standards Report • Develop strategies and standards for middleware utilized by intercampus applications • Specify initial pilot project • Document governance, operational and funding issues associated with shared services within UC • Create repository of shared standards, guidelines, etc. • Provide mutual aid for campus architecture activities • Create clearing house for software and services available for sharing • Identify and implement tools to aid ITAG in accomplishing above • As needed, review architectural designs for UC-wide implementation projects 3

Governance and Operational Issues • UC shares/acquires services • Between two campuses • Among multiple campus, but not all • Among all campuses • From vendors • Examples: • UC’s agreement with SumTotal • UCB/UCSC Oracle Calendar agreement • UCI time-reporting service as part of PPS operated by UCOP 4

  5. Operational Issues for Shared Service • Issues include: • Governance • Service level agreements • Service life cycle • Operational practices • Compliance with UC policy and other regulatory requirements • Sustainable funding models 5

Web Standards and Browser Recommendations • Report structured for distinct web roles: • Web developer/designer • Web services and applications evaluation and purchase • System administrator managing UC-owned computers • Suggested web strategies • UC endorsed web standards • Minimum standards compliance requirements for UC-wide web sites and applications 8

  9. Web Strategies • Adhere to web standards • Design for accessibility • Target layout engines instead of browsers • Use browser plug-ins carefully • Check operating system specific limitations • Design for mobile devices • Test with all applicable browsers 9
