  2. Esyin Chew and Colin Rogers, Kim Blakey, Norah Noblett, Ana Martins and Isabel Martins Funded by nLearning Ltd, (TurnitinUK) & University of Glamorgan

  3. Aim To share experiences of using Turnitin and GradeMark in teaching, learning and assessment

  4. Objectives • Capture experiences of using Turnitin & GradeMark • online submission • plagiarism detection • feedback • grading tool • Produce case studies and film

  5. Methodology • 104 learners questioned • 6 lecturers and 6 learners interviewed/filmed

  6. Turnitin use We have ~25,000 students ~120 staff & ~600 students trained ~8,500 student users 34,202 total submissions

  7. Learners’ best Turnitin experiences • Convenient and quick coursework submission • Promotes academic writing • Easy to use • Encourages prompt feedback • Receipts for coursework submissions

  8. Feedback in Grademark

  9. Feedback via Grademark is . . .

  10. Learners’ worst Turnitin experiences • Confusion over the originality report • 24 hr delay for subsequent submissions disliked • Originality report picks up legitimate text •  Complicated system • Poor preview layout

  11. Not used by all tutors…very annoying, it should be mandatory! Much better for interpreting feedback . . . . I am now actually reading the feedback I love the fact that I can use it all over the world as long as I have an access to the Internet. It's crucial, especially for international students The feedback I have got from the old way is very little. With GradeMarkI can actually see what’s going on … which part goes wrong, which part goes right…it enhances my learning experience
