COFFEE CUP Team TOES Torre Stangebye OanaMihai Emma Shulfer Susie Murillo
Koberg and Bagnall: Design Model 1. Accept the Situation 2. Analyze 3. Define the Problem Ideate Select Implement Evaluate
Accept the situation • Not designing a traditional coffee cup with a cup, sleeve, lid ect.
ANALYZE Research & Brainstorm • Spilled Easily • Hard to keep warm • Cup being too Hot • Damaged really easy • Mobile in a backpack • Only can traditionally carry it in hand
Research Our visit to Caribou!
Define the Problem • 1. Mobile to go cup • 2. Spill proof • 3. Throw it in your backpack • 4. Reusable • 5. Inexpensive
IDEATE More portable Use a straw Temperature indicator Microwaveable Hand groves Gogurt pouch Spill proof (twist top) Pouches for cream and sugar Reusable
Have a cap that could store sugar, creamer, etc. • Have an attachable lid that can close tight • Grooved handles for better grip
Flexible • Could attach to something • Portable
Select • We cameup with: • An affordable, flexible and durable plastic like material that is reusable and portable.
Select • We decided our final prototype addressed most of the issues we had identified. • Spill Proof • Portable • Reusable • Keeps things warm/cold • Durable • Affordable • For people on the go
Implement prototype
Tim Brown’s Definition Describes prototyping as “the willingness to go ahead and try something by building it.” Merriam-Webster A first full-scale and usually functional form of a new type or design of a construction. (Merriam-Webster)
Importance of a Prototype • Tim Brown: “prototyping generates results faster” • Helps refine ideas • Leads to conclusion • Final product= Success!!!
Materials • Plastic Cap Metal Hook Plastic Sheets Thermal Foil Shoe Insert
Functions • Hook for hanging • Thermal bag for hot/cold • Folding plastic=minimal space used • Sturdy hold up
Feedback Loop • Plastic not heat resistant • Too many additional parts you have to keep track of • Leakage in the plastic material • Cracks under cold pressures • Soft, doesn’t quite sit right even with the plastic insert • Not easy to wash
Materials Food Grade Rubber Hook Strap Silicon Nozzle Plastic Container
Functions • Hot liquid due to the rubber material • Really flexible • Inexpensive • Slip it in your pocket • Roll/Fold it up • Hook on backpack • Able to stand up with attachment • Customize different shapes
Evaluate • We had a group in class evaluate our prototype. We also evaluated our product. • We decided that our idea was unique. It would be durable, affordable, portable, sustainable, and perfect for people on the go!
