  3. Zero Waste is More than Recycling and Composting • Zero Waste is a Philosophy that promotes Responsible Consumption • Zero Waste will conserve limited resources, recover valuable materials from the waste stream, and help create a more sustainable island community.

What is a Zero Waste Event? • Zero Waste Management is a guide to sustainable purchasing and resource management. • Instead of managing waste, we will manage resources and strive to eliminate waste. • Zero waste is NOT about getting to zero. It is about being on the path to zero. • Zero Waste is a part of a sustainable solution for the Island’s economy.

Let’s Plan an Event! • Event wants to maximize diversion • Event is a fundraiser – Held from 5PM – 8PM • 1500 people expected at Kilohana Carriage House • Money / Name tags / Registration at the door • Multiple performers on stages – PA system • Was held previously but everything just went into a 6 yard dumpster (pretty full) • No craft or sales vendors • Hand made table decorations – given to participants.

  17. Let’s Plan an Event! • Menu: • Beef Stew • Rice • Noodles • Hot Dogs and buns • Tossed Greens • Fruit Relish Trays • Water and juice for drinks • Desserts brought in by volunteers • 1 on-site vendor serving popcorn and Ice Cream Sundaes • Beer will be served from the bar
