This workshop explores effective facilitation strategies for professional learning, community building, and instructional management. Participants will learn how to connect content with community and use various process tools. The workshop will also cover the principles of effective collaboration in professional learning communities and the actions and results of school turn-arounds. Additionally, participants will gain an understanding of balanced leadership and how to plan for change. The workshop will conclude with sessions on understanding and using assessment systems and conducting instructional audits.

Each group will be given between 5-6 documents and completed templates as “artifacts” of alignment along with highlighters. In pairs, they will highlight “evidence” of alignment. May 28 (first of 3 sessions 75 mins) What is alignment? “Whip Around” List 3 things you highlighted as evidence. 5 slide mini-lecture. This will help pull together and clarify the definition of alignment. What does a standards based classroom, school, or district look like? Constructing our own knowledge- Chalk-talk protocol with this question: “What evidence will you see in our classrooms that indicates a focus on standards? What are our next steps towards embracing alignment? Postcard Activity- participants will choose a postcard that best represents their next steps- so far. Table sharing.

Student work, along with the standards, learning targets and a window into instruction will be provided for each group. They will highlight evidence of understanding in the work. May 29 Session 3 (90 mins) The Assessment Discussion Guide questions will provide the group good discussion material. How can we use both formative and summative assessment data to improve instruction? Assessment samples will be used for item analysis and GLE review.
