Portal v. Directory • Directory—categories of items to be searched, often by jurisdiction or type (i.e. Federal Sources or Codes…..) • Portal—usually contain several directories with added features such as keyword searchable databases or “articles” about subject matter.

Assessing Portals • Features of best ones: • Include subject and jurisdictional directories • Internal search engine that allows keyword search • User friendly (intuitive) • Reliable—credible, up-to-date and objective
