W.B YEATS FACTS • William Butler Yeats was born in Sandymount, Dublin, Ireland on the 13th June, 1865 • His father was John Butler Yeats a famous painter at the time • His mother was Susan Mary Pollexfen • He had three siblings Jack, Elizabeth and Susan Mary Yeats • W.B Yeats and his family moved to London in 1876
In his life Yeats wrote 402 poems • In 1923 Yeats was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature making him the first Irishman to win the award. • In 1889, Yeats fell in love with Maud Gonne and wrote her many poems
Marriage and Family On 20 October 1917, Yeats married a friend George Hyde Lees,who he met in 1911 at the age of 51. George was also a poet and shared many interests with Yeats. They had two children Anne who was born in 1919 and Michael who was born in 1921. Yeats wrote a poem for both of his children a poem “A Prayer for My Daughter“ and "A Prayer for My Son"
DEATH William Butler Yeats died on 28th January 1939. He was buried at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, after WW2 his body was moved to Drumcliffe, Sligo, Ireland as was his wish.
